SAP Data Migration

SAP data migration with documented records at every step.

Cutover-safe migration to SAP S/4HANA, from legacy extraction through mapping and reconciliation to hypercare. Documented so your auditor finds the records they ask for under IDW PS 850 and ISA [DE] 315.

Bottlenecks

Why SAP migrations fail on the cutover weekend.

Technology is rarely the problem. Migrations stall on unvalidated legacy data, broken mappings, and a completeness proof that won't hold up to an auditor. We name these bottlenecks before the first extraction and resolve them with early profiling, cadenced reconciliation, and a rehearsed cutover.

Bad legacy data blocks the load, and without an owner no one is accountable.

Duplicates, missing mandatory fields and inconsistent master data often only surface once business users go live, and without clear data ownership no one can give a sign-off that holds up to the auditor. We profile the source systems at project start, run a cleansing backlog and name an owner per data object.

The legacy data model doesn't fit the new system without rework.

Business Partner, the Universal Journal and the mandatory Material Ledger break field-level mappings and custom code, and in the Migration Cockpit every open value mapping blocks the run. We design the mapping along the target architecture and keep it as versioned, business-approved artifacts with constraints checked up front.

Technical: conversion guides & SAP Notes as a mandatory checklist
You have to prove to the auditor that all data arrived.

Skip the source-to-target reconciliation and differences stay hidden, leaving no completeness proof to put in front of the auditor. We reconcile record counts and control totals per object and document every difference with a rationale.

A single mock load is never enough.

Without realistic volumes, performance and data errors stay hidden until cutover, and parked defects pile up. We run several cadenced mock loads with fixed resolution windows and rising data fidelity.

Approach

From source-system analysis to productive S/4HANA

One approach, three steps (Identify, Build, Embed) worked out for migration across five auditable phases. Each with a defined output, every transition documented, the cutover controlled.

01Discovery & Source Analysis→ Source-system inventory & risk register

We profile the legacy data, scope the migration and rate every data object for risk: duplicates, missing mandatory fields and inconsistent master data surface before we ever load.

02Mapping & Architecture→ Mapping specification & cutover plan

We design the field mapping along the S/4HANA target architecture (Business Partner, Universal Journal, Material Ledger) and document transformation rules, cutover plan and audit concept.

03Extraction & Transformation→ Runnable migration pipeline

We build the migration objects, cleanse and enrich: duplicates removed, mandatory fields filled, values checked against target-field constraints, no mapping left unconfirmed.

04Test Migration & Reconciliation→ Reconciliation report & go-live sign-off

We run several mock loads against real volumes and reconcile source against target: record counts, totals, balances. Defects are closed per cycle, not parked.

05Cutover & Hypercare→ Productive S/4HANA & audit documentation

We go live with a sequenced runbook and a defined rollback path, support hypercare and close the auditable migration file, including knowledge transfer to your team.

Engagement & coverage

Migration lead or augmentation: we plug in the way your program needs.

As migration lead

We run the migration end-to-end, steering your team and the providers involved, from source analysis through hypercare.

As specialist augmentation

We plug into your running program and reinforce exactly where depth is missing, without reshaping your structures.

Frequently asked questions

How do you prevent the migration from disrupting our day-to-day?

We surface the typical stumbling blocks BEFORE the cutover weekend: duplicates, mapping gaps, missing mandatory fields, inconsistent keys. What would otherwise create tickets in the live system gets caught during Discovery. You go into the cutover weekend with cleaned-up data.

Who protects us against audit risk?

Every migration decision is documented in the language auditors know, aligned with the evidence an audit under IDW PS 850 (concurrent project audit) and ISA [DE] 315 (risk assessment, including the IT environment) requires. On roles: MGTI is not an audit firm. We do not perform audits and issue no attestation, we deliver the records your auditor works from. That reduces discussion at closing and follow-up questions from the auditor.

What happens if something goes wrong during cutover?

We run the cutover live with you: every error is classified immediately and escalated to the right owner, so you can still react within the same weekend.

How much effort falls on our team?

You speak directly with the founders who do the work, no ticket ping-pong through junior layers. Your subject-matter people get involved during Discovery to clarify the source data. From there the effort is well-scoped and predictable.

Are two founders enough for a program of our size?

We only take on a program if we can deliver it with full attention, deliberately no dilution through junior chains. Depending on scope we come in as migration lead, steering your team and the providers involved, or as specialist augmentation that plugs into your existing program. That way capacity scales with the project while responsibility stays with the same people, from source analysis through hypercare. Both founders know every setup, and runbook and access details sit with you, so the program stays on track even if one of us is unavailable.

When can we return to normal operations after go-live?

We're with you through go-live and hypercare, until the first month-end closes and your day-to-day run cleanly on the new data base. Then we hand over to your team. If you then want to automate recurring processes on the fresh S/4HANA base, our AI & Automation practice picks up from there.

What do we actually get at the end?

A clean SAP S/4HANA data base and audit-ready migration documentation. Concretely: every migration step is documented, so you are not chasing data lineage and completeness during your first quarterly close.

Where do the risks hide before your next S/4HANA cutover?

Every company carries different bottlenecks: manual routines, risky data, processes no one questions anymore. In a free 30-minute first call with the founders, we pinpoint the biggest levers together and tell you where the effort pays off.
